Viciria pavesii Thorell, 1877

Wide-jawed Scorpion Spider

A sexually dimorphic species whose male appears superficially like a scorpion with long, spiny, and dark-coloured legs I. The male chelicerae are strongly developed and divergent, with a finger-like extension near the base of each fang. The male palps are exceptionally long, exceeding the length of the cephalothorax. The females are attractively coloured, and are often seen guarding their eggs underneath leaves, as shown in the bottom photograph.
