Stenochilidae Colopea

Colopea malayana Lehtinen, 1982

Peninsular Diamond Carapace Spider

Stenochilids of the genus Colopea may be distinguished from Stenochilus (the only other genus of the family, not yet found in Singapore) by having a carapace with a smooth lateral margin (not undulating as in Stenochilus). The carapace is less granulate than that of Stenochilus.

In this species, the carapace has a slit-like thoracic groove in front of a deeply marked and rounded foveal depression. The PME are elongated and milky-coloured, separated from each other by less than their minimum diameter.

Length♀4 mm; ♂ 4 mm
Type Locality"shore of artificial lake, Bang Phra, southern Thailand", probably referring to the Bang Phra Reservoir in Chonburi Province
Distribution#Singapore, Malaysia (Selangor), Thailand.
HabitatLeaf litter under young secondary forest.

# The countries and territories listed under Distribution are sourced principally from published records in taxonomic journals, naturalist guidebooks, checklists, or selected online resources. For practical reasons, not all the countries or territories are listed in the case of records of geographically widespread species.
