Filistatidae Labahitha

Labahitha garciai (Simon, 1892)

Garcia Crevice Weaver

This species is sexually dimorphic, with the male showing a totally different abdominal pattern from the female. The male has a patch of white setae on the dorsum, while the female abdomen has indistinct patches of yellow-brown hairs against a dark background on the dorsal side. In both cases, the yellow-brown carapace is covered by a flattened layer of dark grey hairs.

HabitatOn walls or in crevices around the windows and door frames of derelict or poorly-maintained buildings.
BiologySeveral spiders may be found in one web. As shown on the previous page, webs often contain fragments of prey.
