Psilodercidae Leclercera

Leclercera sp. "Patched Violet Ground Weaver"

Patched Violet Ground Weaver

Leclercera spiders are notable for their purplish brown tinge. The carapace is almost circular, with a deep median furrow in the centre (visible under a hand lens) and with an extended clypeus protruding in front. The abdomen is narrowly oval in dorsal view. When the spider is at rest in its upside-down position, the rear end of the tapered abdomen points upwards.

This species has a characteristic central dark patch on the carapace and a unique pattern of spots and chevrons on the abdomen as shown in the photographs.
