Colourful Striped Wolf Spider
The species is readily recognised by its striking pattern and colouration, as well as its sheer size: it is the largest wolf spider known in Singapore.
By its general appearance, it is easy to understand why the species is named "vittata", meaning "wearing a colourful band". The carapace and abdomen each has a pair of narrow and conspicuous bands of white setae adjacent to wider bands with different shades of brown. The abdominal pattern is particularly noticeable with blackish speckles and irregular black lines on both sides of the jagged white bands against a brownish background. In both sexes, the ALE, PME, and PLE are set within two longitudinal dark bands that extend from the front chelicerae, up the clypeus and then, broadening after the eyes, along the full length of the carapace.
