Salticidae Nannenus

Nannenus syrphus Simon, 1902

Common Litter Jumper

It is smaller and more abundant than N. lyriger. Both sexes have a high cephalothorax and erect hairs on a short and broadly oval abdomen. The male is easily recognised by the many bands and tufts of white setae on the palps, legs and the body. The femora of the male palps are curved. A thin transverse band of light-coloured setae decorate the anterior part of the female abdomen.

This is probably the most common jumper on the forest floor at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The species was described from a specimen collected in Singapore by the French arachnologist Eugène Simon.
