Neon sumatranus Logunov, 1998

Miniature Jumper

Members of the genus Neon are some of smallest species of jumping spiders, with adults measuring just around 2 mm. The diminutiveness of the species is clearly demonstrated in the picture of a male sitting on a Singapore 20 cents coin. Other characters of the genus include a short abdomen and disproportionately large ALE and PLE.

Both sexes of N. sumatranus have a single white stripe on the carapace and two stripes on the abdomen. The legs are translucently yellow, with black rings on the segments.

HabitatFern thickets and suspended litter in forests.
Type LocalityTapanuli Utara, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
