Oven Mitten Money Spider
The genus Neonesiotes currently comprises only two species from the Pacific Islands, recognised by the structure of their genitalia. Among their diagnostic genital characters is the shape of the palpal cymbium. which calls to mind an oven mitten, being truncate distally with a distinct posterolateral lobe. as seen in the species featured on this page.
Apart from the characteristic male palp structures, the Singapore species may be recognised by several other characters. These include the relatively long legs, black overall colouration, reticulate carapace with several pits on the clypeus, and a tooth on the outer surface of the chelicerae in the male.
