Common White-flanked Water Spider
The species name "albocinctus", meaning "white girdled" in Latin, refers to the two pairs of white bands, one flanking the dark brown median band on the carapace, and another, the dorsum. However, the colouration can be variable. Some individuals appear similar to the Nilus sp. depicted on the previous page, while some males (below) may not even have a pair of white lateral bands on the carapace. In this species, the AME of the female are 10%–20% larger than the PME.
