Salticidae Piranthus

Piranthus bakau Maddison, 2020

This species has well-developed legs I and II, and a longish abdomen. Interestingly, sexual dimorphism is shown in the colouration of femora and tarsi I and II (black in males; brown in females). The carapace is flat and a wavy pattern is present on the abdomen.

EtymologyThe specific epithet "bakau" is the Malay name of the tropical mangrove trees belonging to the genus Rhizophora, which refers to the holotype’s habitat, mangroves.

HabitatFoliage in mangroves.
Type LocalityBako National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia.
