Krakatau Bark Crab spider
The genus Pycnaxis includes bark-coloured crab spiders whose bodies are covered partly by fine nodules and club-like setae. The legs are armed with robust spines rooted in prominent sockets, visible under a microscope.
The carapace of P. krakatuaensis bears a black median streak. ending before the posterior border, and several jagged and longitudinal lateral bands flanking it, all made of fine black nodules. The species was described based on a pair of specimens collected from Lang Eiland, now renamed Pulau Panjang (meaning Long Island), of the Krakatau archipelago.
