Round-headed Jumper
The carapace of this male is almost circular, which helps to distinguish it from the other known Rhene males in Singapore. Its palps look identical with those of Rhene rubrigera (Thorell, 1887) described from Myanmar, and recorded also in Vietnam, parts of China and Indonesia (Sumatra). However, it lacks two characteristics associated with R. rubrigera: transverse streaks of white hairs in front of the chelicerae, and large patches of red setae on the dorsum.
The posterior part of the abdomen shows a wavy pattern that is prevalent among Rhene, as shown in Rhene sp. A and Rhene sp. C (below). Studies such as DNA analysis will be required to determine if Rhene sp. B matches with Rhene sp. A, C, or another species.
