Liocranidae Sesieutes

Sesieutes lucens Simon, 1897

Shiny Spiny-legged Spider

This is the species that was designated as the "type" that represents the genus Sesieutes. It was based on a male specimen collected by the renowned French arachnologist Eugéne Simon during his trip to Singapore in 1890.

Sesieutes may be recognised by a combination of characters. These include the presence of a sharply defined scutum on the dorsum of the abdomen in both males and females; a rebordered (thickened at the border) clypeal lobe extending in front of the face, a pair of small, oval and well-separated PME. femora I with 1–3 prolateral spines, and tarsi I and metatarsi I with several ventral spines. S. lucens may be separated from other Southeast Asian Sesieutes species by the details of its genitalia.
