Punctate Sphingius
The species name "punctatus" is derived from the Latin word "punctum", meaning a point and is the root of the English word "punctate", meaning "with depressions". It refers to the conspicuous circular depressions that perforate the shiny carapace which has serrated edges. This species differs from other Sphingius by its reddish-brown legs and by the straight posterior eye row, with a pair of large and squarish PME almost touching each other.
