Thomisidae Spilosynema

"Spilosynema" sp. "Double-dashed"

Double-dashed Crab Spider

The males and females of this species may be recognised by the double dash pattern at the posterior end of the abdomen. In both sexes, the dorsum is covered with faintly coloured spots. but these are more conspicuous in some individuals than others. The carapace is glossy, translucent in various shades of green, and armed with several stiff and long spines. A pair of dark-brown longitudinal bands are visible on the carapace in some specimens.

The species is provisionally placed in the genus Spilosynema, defined mainly by the characteristic pattern of white spots on the dorsum. This genus may require further studies as it includes similar looking spiders with a wide range of genitalic configurations.
