Theridiidae Tamanidion

Tamanidion sp. "Tiny Black-dotted Green"

Tiny Black-dotted Green Comb-foot Spider

In both sexes, the body is translucently green. The dorsum has two widely-spaced longitudinal rows, each with four well separated black spots or comma-shaped markings. Each sides of the female bears at least one dot, and the male at least three dots. The palps and legs I and II of the adult male show some brownish pigmentation, lacking in the female. Also, the female abdomen has a smoothly rounded extension above the spinnerets but this extension is less noticeable in the male.

Although details of the male palp match well with Tamanidion multidenticuli, the Singapore species is provisionally treated as a separate species because there are slight differences in the abdominal spots between the Singapore male and the described multidenticuli male. Furthermore, it is not possible to match the females because the female of T. multidenticuli has not yet been formally described. More specimens of each sex from both Malaysia and Singapore need to be collected and examined before they are declared synonymous.
