Salticidae Telamonia

Telamonia festiva Thorell, 1887

Magpie Robin Jumper

The Swedish arachnologist Teodor Thorell who named the species "festiva" (meaning "joyous" in Latin) was struck by the "beauty" of the female he was describing. He might have been attracted by the translucent look of the female with a median band bracketed with black lines and surrounding a saw-like stripe of white setae running longitudinally on the dorsum.

The male is equally attractive, with a black-and-white colouration reminiscent of the magpie robin, a Singapore garden bird. Its carapace has a U-shaped belt of white setae, with a median short white stripe in front. The dorsum is decorated with a white saw-like stripe similar to that of the female.
