Wavy Spiny-legged Spider
The genus Teutamus includes shiny, reddish to dark brown and fast-running, ground-living spiders. They may be instantly recognised by the wavy outline of their longish carapace. These wavy edges are extended from four pairs of ridges sloping downwards from the roof of the carapace, thus giving the thoracic part of the cephalothorax a characteristic undulating look. The posterior end of the carapace is narrowed, pointing towards a tubular collar formed by the scutum of the abdomen. Juveniles are bright orange. The PME are oval, pearly, and more than a diameter apart.
In T. leptothecus, the wavy outline characteristic of the genus is not particularly obvious although the carapace is still undulating. The femur I has three socketed spines. like a few species found outside Singapore, but this character helps to separate the species from other Teutamus (also found outside Singapore) which have two or four spines.
