Sparassidae Tiomaniella

Tiomaniella ladam Grall & Jäger, 2022

Mottled Horse-shoe Huntsman

This is one of the smallest Heteropoda species in Singapore, within the size range of Heteropoda sp. C and Heteropoda sp. J (below). Like the latter, the carapace is marked with a horseshoe motif. However, it differs from Heteropoda sp. J by having a mottled abdominal pattern. It is known only from a photographic record; whether it is a distinct species or merely a different colour morph of Heteropoda sp. J below can be verified only when a specimen is available.

EtymologyThe species name refers to the Malayan word "ladam" meaning "horse shoe" and refers to the brown U-shaped patterning of the prosoma; term in apposition.
Length♀ 5–7 mm; ♂ unknown.
HabitatLeaf litter in young secondary forest.
