Tiny Shiny Litter Jumper
The genus Tisaniba comprises diminutive litter-dwelling jumpers whose name was derived from a whimsical contraction of the nickname assigned to them in field before the genus was established: "tiny, black, shiny". These characters are shown in the males, along with a distinct, full-length abdominal scutum. The female bodies may range from medium to dark brown, but the ocular region is often shiny. To date, 12 Tisaniba species are recognised from Malaysia and Indonesia. Pictured on the right is a new species, and the first record of a Tisaniba in Singapore. The specimen was much darker when alive.
Preliminary comparison of a female collected by the French arachnologist Eugène Simon in 19th century Singapore suggests that this species may have been described as Rogmocrypta puta Simon, 1900.
