Theridiidae Janula

Janula sp. "Monkey-faced"

Monkey-faced Red-eyed Spider

The abdomen in both sexes is rhomboidal with a pair of pimple-like depressions on the dorsum. In dorsal view, the female abdomen gives a comical impression of a long-tailed macaque, with a pair of eyes on a brown face with black facial hairs on the sides. The similarity with a monkey face is less striking in the case of the male, as the dorsum is predominantly green. Certain segments of the legs are black, notably patellae IV, tibiae IV, the distal ends of femora I and IV.
