Theridiidae Argyrodes

Argyrodes flavescens O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1880

Orange Silver Food Stealer

This common species in Singapore is easily recognised by its reddish orange colouration and its rather short, elevated abdomen with a rounded hump at the top. The abdomen is speckled with silver and black spots. One of the black spots is situated at the top of the abdominal hump, and the other just above the spinnerets. The clypeal cleft of the male is merely a narrow and groove-like indentation below the eyes, unlike the males of other Singapore Argyrodes which have a more pronounced excavation.

DistributionSingapore, Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak), Indonesia, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, Sri Lanka, China.
