The species name means "full of blisters" in Latin. It alludes to the key diagnostic character of this species: the presence of two pairs of humps on the abdomen. These humps may vary in size, with the posterior pair typically smaller. The colouration of both pairs of humps may be either glossy black or mottled, matching the abdominal pattern.
