Pond Wolf Spider
This spider is easily identified by its association with aquatic environments, a pair of broad bands on the carapace, enclosing a distinct "Y"-shaped pattern with two broad arms and a narrower stem. Based on the structures of its reproductive organs, the species is clearly a member of the genus Draposa. This species may be distinguished from Draposa sp. by its shorter abdomen and the presence of three narrow, transverse silvery lines on the female dorsum. The sternum on the underside of the spider is decorated with six dark spots.
Length | ♀ 8–10 mm; ♂ 7–8 mm |
Distribution | Singapore, Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah), Indonesia (Java), Brunei, Thailand, Philippines, China, India, Japan. |
Habitat | Edge of ponds, canals, rice fields and reservoirs. |
Biology | They can take advantage of the surface tension of water and run over it. |
