Lycosidae Pardosa

Pardosa pusiola (Thorell, 1891)

Common Little Wolf Spider

This is the most frequently seen wolf spider in Singapore, especially on wet ground. Like many other Pardosa spiders, the carapace is dominated by two dark lateral bands. The abdomen has a folium in front of several transverse bands, but the patterns and colourations within the species are varied as shown in the pictures on this page.

It is difficult to distinguish P. pusiola and P. sumatrana in the field, although the rule of the thumb is that P. pusiola tends to be the smaller of the two species. The name "pusiola" means "little girl" in Latin. Other details are discussed under P. sumatrana.
