Red Tortoise-shell Spider
This species is recognised by its small size (not more than 2 mm), short legs, and a red, haired and densely blobbed dorsum with distinctive teardrop-shaped pits. The existence in Singapore of this species or, more precisely "morphospecies" (meaning a species identified solely from its external appearances), is based on a photographic record shown here. It is possible that this morphospecies is merely a different colour morph of the more commonly encountered Phoroncidia sp. B. but this can be confirmed only when a specimen of Phoroncidia sp. A is available and compared with those of Phoroncidia sp. B.
