Salticidae Plexippus

Plexippus paykulli (Audouin, 1826)

Greater Housefly Catcher

The male is conspicuous with its contrasting black-and-white linear pattern. The female is superficially similar to that of P. petersi. also common in Southeast Asian houses, but it is much larger and heavier.

BiologyThe egg sac is guarded by the mother in a silken chamber built in a sheltered corner or a suitably-sized crevice. The male also constructs its own densely woven silk shelter, as shown in the picture below.
