Theridiidae Theridion

"Theridion" sp. "Four-spotted"

Four-spotted Comb-footed Spider

This female is recognised by having four spots on the abdomen: two median ones on the posterior part of the abdomen, and another two on the sides. Like Theridion t-notatum. the female builds a three-dimensional web and lives and guards its egg sacs within a rolled leaf retreat suspended in the web. Superficially it appears similar to Nihonhimea mundula. and its genitalia suggests that it may well belong to that genus. However, there remain some differences in the reproductive organ when compared to Nihonhimea, and it is therefore provisionally placed under Theridion.
