Thomisidae Thomisus

Thomisus sp. "Large Horned"

Large Horned Crab Spider

Young females may be white, pale yellow or even greenish. Most older individuals are translucent, nearly waxy white, and with or without black spots on their dorsum and femora. Occasionally the ground colour is a golden or lemon yellow instead of white. The "face" is decorated by a trapezoidal frame of black or dark brown lines, often with the lower transverse line extending to lateral edges of the carapace above the chelicerae. The female may be distinguished from the females of T. callidus and T. guangxicus by its somewhat larger size. It does not have a chocolate face seen in most T. guangxicus females. The miniature brown male (not shown here) can be identified accurately only by microscopic examination of its palps.
