Serrated Spur Jade Jumper
It is difficult to distinguish this male from the male of Epeus sp. A purely from external appearance. Both species have a pair of white patches between the PME and PLE, and two white or light-coloured longitudinal bands on the dorsum. In freshly moulted males, the dorsum has a short green line at the anterior end of the abdomen, as in Epeus sp. A, although the line becomes less conspicuous in older males. Nevertheless, the male may be recognised from a less pointed and elevated "mohawk" crest on the carapace. While femora I – IV in Epeus sp. A are translucently green, the same femora of this species are darkly coloured, with scale-like setae scattered on their dorsal surfaces.
The most diagnostic difference lies in the male palps: in this species, the cymbium (the dorsal cover of the palp) has a serrated (saw-like) extension. Such a serrated extension is seen two other Southeast Asian, but they are distinct from all the other Epeus species that occur in Singapore.
