Tetragnathidae Leucauge

Leucauge celebesiana (Walckenaer, 1841)

Celebes Silver Orb Weaver

This species is much larger than the closely related L. decorata. It also differs by having a pair of distinct yellow-green bands laterally at the abdomen, between the black lateral lines. The abdomen is round posteriorly. The species is rarely found in Singapore nowadays.

Length♀ 8–13 mm; ♂ 5–7 mm.
HabitatDamp places such as edges of waterfalls, but occasionally among grasses in open areas fringing forests. Also common in misty places in highlands above 1000 metres.
Type LocalitySulawesi, Indonesia.
DistributionSingapore, Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah), Indonesia (Sulawesi, Sumatra, West Papua), Brunei, Laos, Philippines, China, Japan, India.
