Swollen-jawed Black Ant-mimicking Jumper
This is one of the several species of ant jumpers whose males are armed with a pair of terminally swollen chelicerae, like a pair of maracas or drumsticks. The females have normal looking chelicerae. In lateral view, the cephalic and thoracic regions of the female cephalothorax are more convex than the respective regions of the male, and the groove dividing the two regions is deeper.
Both sexes are generally black in colour, but each sex exists in two forms: one covered with golden or white hairs, and the other almost hairless and appears polished. The colour of the abdomen also varies from maroon to black.
