Myrmarachne macrognatha (Thorell, 1894)

Mangrove Long-jawed Ant Jumper

The male is readily recognisable by the exceptionally long chelicerae, distinguished from M. markaha by a shorter pedicel and abdomen. Smaller males with shorter chelicerae also exist in Singapore as a variant of this species. The female (not shown here) resembles M. melanocephala but has no abdominal markings.

HabitatAmong forest foliage in Southeast Asia, but both the normal form and the smaller variants seem to be seasonally common in Singapore mangroves.
