Black-rumped Globose Spider
This robust-looking female is distinctive in having a glossy black carapace and legs, with a diffuse black patch on an abdomen which may be plain brown, purplish brown, or brownish red. Its general appearance is reminiscent of a Parasteatoda or Steatoda. but its unusual reproductive organ suggests that it belongs to neither genus. It is provisionally parked under the mixed-bag genus of "Theridion" until further research is conducted to clarify its taxonomic position.
