Salticidae Phintella

"Phintella" vittata (C. L. Koch, 1846)

Electric Blue Jumper

This common jumper in Singapore is not a typical Phintella; the male lacks the spots or bands of white setae seen on the carapace of other Phintella. Both sexes share a pattern of alternating transverse glossy black and electric blue or green bands on both the carapace and abdomen. The morphological differences between the sexes are not as distinct as in other Phintella; they differ only in having a pair of more robust legs I and chelicerae in the males, and in differences in leg and palp colouration: whereas the palps and most segments of the legs of the males are almost black, in the female the palps and all the legs are pale yellow.
