Heteropoda bufocorniculans Jäger & Koh, 2024

Horned Toad Huntsman

This sparassid reminds one of a horned toad with the well-developed “horns” on both corners of the cephalic region. It differs from typical Heteropoda by its small size, a heavily tufted and oblong abdomen, and a series of erect spines on the femora. Newly hatched spiderlings are much larger than those of typical Heteropoda.

EtymologyThe species name is derived from the Latin "bufo" meaning "toad" and "corniculans" meaning "horned" and refers to toad-like appearance of the species with wart-shaped structures and the "horns" between lateral eyes; adjective.
Length♀ 12–14 mm; ♂ unknown.
HabitatTree trunks in primary rainforests.
Type LocalityGading National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia.
DistributionMalaysia (Sabah, Sarawak).
