David Bowie’s Huntsman
This species can be recognised in the field by its size, bicoloured chelicerae, as well as long hair covering the body and legs. The general colouration of the females may range from greyish brown to orange. The male has a median longitudinal reddish line running from the ocular area to the middle of the abdomen. Ventrally the chelicerae, labium, endites, coxae, sternum and abdomen are black. The spider was named by German arachnologist Dr Peter Jäger who associated the spider’s chelicerae with the facial make-up by the late rock star David Bowie.
