Sparassidae Heteropoda

"Heteropoda" sp. "Lined Carapace"

Lined Carapace Huntsman

The male and female share three characteristics that, taken together, help to distinguish this species from other Heteropoda in Singapore. First, the palely coloured carapace has a few fine and radiating white lines with a bluish tinge on its anterior half. Second, the chelicerae appear "painted" as shown in the photos. Third, the legs are armed with long, fine, and erect black spines.

The male has proportionally longer and slenderer legs than most other Heteropoda in Singapore. These legs are covered by patches of white setae. The abdomen is covered by long trichobothria (sensory hairs). The legs bear these hairs as well, especially conspicuous on the legs of the female.

Length♀ 6–8 mm; ♂ 8 mm.
